Best time to visit Greece

Our verdict

The best time to visit Greece is May-June

While Greece is a popular destination to visit all year round, May-June is the ideal time to go due to a number of factors such as the climate, cost of travel and accommodation, as well as avoiding peak holiday periods.

In summer, temperatures can reach as high 32℃ (90℉) in the middle of the day in Athens. The average Athens temperatures in winter reach lows of around 7℃ (45℉), while the coldest it gets down to is about 5℃ (41℉). Other areas in Greece can sometimes get even colder than this – You can check out the climates of other popular destinations below.

The days are longest in Greece in August, so if you want to see the sights during the day when the sun is up for the longest time, it’s best to visit around that time of year. The wet season in Greece falls around December, so if you prefer the dryer weather, you should look to visit in August instead.
